It’s 2040 and everything is normal again

The disruption of the last 20 years has been proven to be nonsense. It’s the year 2040.

1. The return of the office culture

A Harvard study on company culture has just been released. This study focused on a steel manufacturing company that has catapulted itself to be the most valuable company in the world. In addition it has been ranked 1st in the latest best companies to work for survey and has been delivering consistent profits for over 15 years. The Harvard’s study aims to find out how exactly it did this.

While most firms jumped onto the bandwagon of the agile workforce which can “work anywhere”, this company built these huge sites known as offices. The offices provided safe, dedicated areas where teams could work and collaborate. Most employees are accommodated in their own dedicated office and are encouraged to bring personal artifacts from home so they can personalize their space at work.

This has proven to be a hit with employees struggling to find a sense of belonging, who for 15 years were forced to work from their homes and coffee shops. With each employee having their own dedicated offices there is less disruption and employees feel like they belong. Meetings are more formal and deliberate towards a specific outcome.

People are actually meeting for a purpose and feeling secure in their own work space. The biggest management break through of the last 20 years.

2. Tangible is back. Physical is in

As the years progressed every service has been “Uberised”. Everything is provided on demand with people getting access to a variety of services. But the world is beginning to rebel. Craving a sense of individual identity we see the trend of people ditching the network and providing for themselves as their ancestors did many years ago. Car ownership is at record highs as new technologies have made vehicle costs become cheaper and cheaper. 3D printing is prevalent for almost anything and it becomes more cost effective for people to buy rather than rent.

The most sought after skills in the world are those of people who can physically do manual work. World muscle mass and gross motor skills have both declined 25% over the last 10 years. Anyone who can fix a leaky tap or repair a pothole on the road is more sought after than the current generation that know everything about computers but can’t change a light bulb.

3. I eat my own food

As science has improved there has been more and more evidence that food manufacturers have been putting dangerous ingredients into food. Every packaged product is now suspicious with people preferring to grow their own food and purchase what they cannot grow at organic markets. Most interesting has been that companies creating meat like substitutes are all being sued.

It has been proven that true process of making these meat substitutes makes food more harmful than just eating meat. Every child is taught how to grow their own food in primary school. There is less wastage and less people go hungry. Water sources have become so polluted that technology has been invented to claim water directly from the air. These machines can be 3D printed at very little cost.

4. Africa has risen

After decades or corruption and misrule in Africa, communities have decided to abandon the idea of national governments. Individual villages and communities are self determining and headed by a chief or headman. There is great co-operation between different tribes and villages and borders set up during colonial times are broken down. African agriculture explodes making Africa the richest continent in the world. It is the only place in the world where food is certifiably organic for commercial purposes.

Everything is normal again.
